The Morning Run

Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire

Was a really nice sunny morning so I was out in the wheat fields before they get cut (a farmer friend says I have about a week), when this runner came past. Just thought what a great way to start the day…

Dog Days

Stadpark, Bochum, Germany

It’s certainly the Dog Days in the Rhur, the schools have just broken up, it’s hot and humid, except for the odd thunderstorm, and generally uncomfortable. If you look closely at this water you’ll see it’s pretty static, not very nice after a couple of weeks over 30c. Still the football teams are out in this, the main park, running and training regardless of the heat, more than I can claim…

Poppy Field, Hertfordshire

This is one of the poppy field shots I got at the end of June. The field was a bit past it when I got there but still worth a visit.

Flower with water droplet

I’m in two minds about this one. Thinking of putting it into a comp where the theme is ‘close up’ but not sure it’s got enough ‘grab’ to it…

The alpine slopes of Hertfordshire

Wildflowers, Heartwood, St Albans

As a follow up to the earlier post of the wild flowers at Heartwood, this is a more traditional wild flower sloping landscape. Has a touch of the alpine (without the mountains) but it’s just the chalk of slopes of this area.

The wildflowers at Heartwood looked great the other day, here’s a shot of the them in the breeze.

Playing Trains?

Oil Seed Rape, Hertfordshire

The lines that tractors make in many fields are of course a gift for a landscape photographer. They can divide picture elements, provide leading lines and of course impose themselves on the landscape in interesting ways. However some times I have this feeling that the tractor drivers with the long straight lines sometimes wished they’d driven trains. I think this adds to my feeling ..

Trinity at Twilight

Trinity, Tollesbury Essex

Last of the twilight shots for a while. This is an ex Trinity House Light Vessel (LV15) , now used as an outdoor and sailing activities centre by Fellowship Afloat. I liked the way the light reflects off the salt marsh mud in this shot, and of course the blue twilight feel.

Caerphilly Castle

Caerphilly Castle, South Wales

There’s nothing like a medieval war to get a really good castle building programme going and Caerphilly has one of the best examples in the country. It is the largest castle in Wales and the second largest in Britain after Windsor Castle. Built mainly between 1268 and 1271. Also great for twilight shots …

St Albans Abbey

St Albans Abbey, Hertfordshire

I’m going to do a series  of three twilight shots.  This is St Albans Abbey which stands out, in many ways, because it seems to be lit on west face by lights that are much whiter than the side yellow lights, and thus you get this two tone effect. I think it looks appealing.
